Project Spotlight: Old Town Plaza in Elk Grove
Everything old is new again at Elk Grove’s beloved Old Town Plaza!
Designed to Bring People Together
In celebration of its grand reopening, residents and city council members gathered underneath Park Planet’s new shade pavilion with music and food trucks, commemorating progress in the city’s latest improvement project.
The plaza boasts a soaring 9,000 sq. ft. open-air pavilion with an L-shaped canopy, featuring an elevated platform with seating, walkways, and parking for both cars and bikes. The structure includes high-ceilings and a designated space for food trucks, creating the perfect gathering space for farmers markets, arts & craft fairs, concerts, and community events up to 500 people.
A New Piece of History
With buildings dating back to the 1800’s, the historic district has an array of charming shops and restaurants that pay tribute to one of the oldest western settlements in the greater Sacramento region. To boost the economic vitality and attractiveness of Old Town, the City worked with Park Planet to make improvements that would preserve the area’s unique character and history.
Designed to blend in with the surrounding buildings, the structure has a railroad themed heavy-timber look with brick accents familiar to its surrounding buildings. The City of Elk Grove hopes that this project will foster a sense of community through future events, and improve overall circulation for those walking, biking, and spending time in Old Town.
Restoring Elk Grove’s Community
Old Town Plaza is one of three major City Council priority projects and will help the City meet their 2019-2021 goals. Park Planet is proud to have helped revitalize the historic district with a space that will turn the page in the next chapter of Old Town Elk Grove’s vibrant and long-lasting community.
